Prior to his current position, Turner served as the head of Professional Services for the Americas for Skybox Security, a cybersecurity vendor focused on network assurance and vulnerability management. In this role he led a services transformation initiative that catapulted Skybox explosive growth in 2017 to 2018. Before that, he served as the Principal Application Security Architect and BISO for Arrow Electronics, a Fortune 100 Electronics Manufacturing company where he was responsible for leading the global application security program and functioning as a line of business CISO for the Digital and AVR business units, reporting to the global CSO. In addition, Turner has led numerous security organizations in state and local government, including founding and operating the security and compliance programs for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, responsible for operating the MCO and OEA airports in Orlando, FL, disaster response for the state of FL through the FL Department of Health and associated CDC Bioterrorism programs, and a variety of cybersecurity consulting services. Turner also developed application security services and ran the Application Delivery practice for Guidepoint Security until 2016 where he was responsible for the delivery of F5 Networks subcontracting services to F5 and additional service offerings around web application firewalls and application delivery controllers to Fortune 500 customers.
Prior to his work in cybersecurity starting in 2003 in state government, Turner worked for over 15 years in a variety of information technology roles including IT Director, Desktop Support, Development, Network Engineering, Server Administration and other disciplines in addition to serving as a United State Marine as a Combat Correspondent.
Turner founded the Security B-Sides Orlando conference in 2012 and served as the President from 2012 until 2017. He founded the OWASP Orlando chapter in 2011 and was the conference organizer for the Global AppSecUSA conference in 2017. Additionally, he is the project lead for the Web Application Firewall Evaluation Criteria (WAFEC) project used by thousands of organizations around the globe, has taught classes for the Florida Cyber Alliance, and spoken at many industry events such as SANS, OWASP, ISSA, ISACA, DerbyCon, B-Sides and government sanctioned industry events. He currently is a participant in the Idaho National Labs run software bill of materials (SBOM) proof of concept with the electric power industry.
Turner is active within the martial arts community, specifically the American Taekwondo Association where he has won several national championships and FL state titles and has actively contributed to the development of youths in martial arts. Additionally, Turner is actively engaged with veteran transition programs focused on providing a pathway into cybersecurity for veterans leaving service or preparing for their transition and has spoken frequently about the value of internships and fostering the next generation of cyber warriors.
Turner holds a Bachelor’s in Information Systems management with a concentration in Information Assurance and Compliance from Hodges University.
