Professional Experience

Jon specializes in Operational Technology (OT), Industry Control Systems (ICS) security architecture, and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) device security. He has a background in electrical engineering, starting his career as a Communications Systems Engineer with Caterpillar in their Information Products division, which focused on large mining vehicle telematics and remote connectivity. That experience prepared Jon for work as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Monico Inc, where he had responsibility for existing and generational product security development and service integration with customer security frameworks. Eventually, Jon would go back to Caterpillar to work as Security Architect for the company’s Autonomous Machines programs. Jon’s work there on existing machine security evaluation and ecosystem security planning would start his transition into security on utilities.

With more than 15 years in applied ICS, OT, and Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem security and engineering experience, Jon was well-positioned to become Senior Manager and Principal Cyber Security Consultant for OT Services at Revolutionary Security, a part of Accenture Security. He was responsible for the Pen Testing and R&D product line groups where he led both groups as their development and business leader, as well as a technical SME. While at Accenture, Jon began seeing a regular problem in the utilities sector – customers who didn’t understand the risk in their environment. In Fortress, Taylor found a company explaining risk to utilities as well as companies in other sectors. “The Fortress platform lets people understand what's in their environment and what risk it poses,” Taylor said. “When a zero-day or big news article on a horrible breach happens, everyone is always trying to figure out ‘does this matter to me?’ Now, we have a quantifiable single source solution where we can find that out.”

Industry Leadership

Jon is an active member of the SANS Advisory Board and regularly presents at industry conferences.

John volunteers through his local church, supporting Orlando-area food banks and toy drives to make sure kids overseas get presents during the Christmas season.

Jon received his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from Bradley University. He also holds multiple active security certifications, including ISC2 CISSP, SANS GICSP, and SANS GRID.

Additionally, Jon also served in the US Air Force from 2001 to 2009.
