Before joining Fortress in 2021, Carson co-founded the first Corporate Venture Capital fund at American Electric Power (a Fortune 200), investing in energy-focused technology, cyber security, AI/ML, and sustainability. In this role, he was responsible for developing investment theses for C-Suite Executives, writing checks into Series A/B rounds of the world’s most promising young companies, and applying portfolio company products within AEP. Before that he worked in AEP’s Strategic initiatives group and was responsible for strategic planning and M&A.
Prior to his VC/M&A career, Carson was an engineer in the Oil & Gas and Electric Utility industries where his responsibilities ranged from steel structure design to project scheduling and construction management.
At AEP, Carson worked directly with the CFO to design a College Graduate/Young Professional development program within the company. He serves as a mentor to the next generation of energy industry talent.
Carson is a volunteer at the Franklin Country Dog Shelter where he is involved in the care, training, exercise, and adoption of foster dogs.
Previously, Carson was a volunteer STEM teacher and tutor at the Literacy Council of Tyler, a non-profit for adult education promoting higher GED achievement rates, college application rates, and job security.
In his free time Carson enjoys hiking with his wife Brooke and two rescue dogs Belle and Lily, playing hockey, golf, tennis and taking ski trips.
Carson holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Tufts University and a Master of Business Administration from Ohio State University.
